The modern X-ray facility, where a state-of-the-art Bruker SMART system, complete with a three-circle goniometer and CCD-APEX detector, is available for student use. The diffractometer is equipped with a custom built low temperature device ensuring routine operation at 90K. Data processing and handling are performed on several PCs. Access to the Cambridge crystallographic database is available. A Bruker D8 Advance powder diffractometer was installed in 2004. The diffractometer is equipped with a programmable slit assembly, X-ray mirror optics, a capillary stage, a graphite monochromator on the reflected beam side and a PARR temperature stage allowing work in the -180 to 450°C range. The diffractometer is controlled by a PC, and the necessary data processing software, including those for structure refinement, is available for student use.
