Fundamental principles and laws underlying chemical action, states of matter, atomic and molecular structure, chemical bonding, stoichiometry, properties of solutions, chemical equilibrium, and introductory thermodynamics. Descriptive chemistry in relation to theoretical principles. Credit is given for CHE 106, 116 or CHE 109, 119, but not both. Prereq for CHE 116: CHE 106 or 109.

| CHE 300: Forensic Analysis (4 cr) |
CHE 300 is a lecture and lab course in forensic chemistry, which can be thought of as analytical chemistry applied to the law. The lecture part of the course focuses on concepts and theory behind the analytical techniques, and the laboratory provides direct experience in the methods. After completing this course, a student should have a working knowledge, both conceptual and practical, of many commonly used forensic analysis techniques. Prereq: CHE 116, 117 or CHE 113.
