Below, please find a list of available opportunities that other universities and institutions have asked us to share with interested students. Please contact the individual sites for more information or to apply.

• ACS Division of Organic Chemistry Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) Program
The Division of Organic Chemistry plans to award summer undergraduate research fellowships for undergraduate organic chemistry students attending colleges and universities in the United States in the 2009 academic year. Chemistry departments can nominate a maximum of two students for these fellowships. These $5000 fellowships provide support for undergraduates to carry out research at their respective colleges/universities in the summer (for a minimum of eight weeks) between their junior and senior year. The $5000 stipend will be distributed to the awardees' department chair. Up to $1000 of the stipend can be used to defray the costs associated with the summer project (the awardee will receive at least $4000 from the stipend).

Applicants should be U.S. citizens or permanent resident visa holders at the time of application. Applications from minorities are especially encouraged. This program targets current Juniors and they will be given preference. Seniors are not eligible for these fellowships. For more information and application materials, visit the website above. Application Deadline: February 2, 2009.

• RISE: Research Internships in Science and Engineering

It offers unique opportunities for undergraduate students to work with research groups at universities and top research institutions across Germany for a period of 1.5 to 3 months during the summer. RISE interns are matched with doctoral students whom they assist and who serve as their mentors. The working language will be English. All participants receive stipends from the DAAD to help cover living expenses, while partner universities and research institutes provide housing assistance.

Interested students should apply for a RISE internship through the DAAD. (Please see the website linked above for information on how to apply). Application Deadline: January 31, 2009.
